The night was long as I thought of the following days events <br />Lying under the stars in beds made of hay and make shift tents <br />Wondering was I ready for what was to take place tomorrow <br />Or was my day to end in pain and sorrow <br /> <br />Watching the sun as it rose above the distant plains <br />Preparing my self as the hour glass slowly looses its grains <br />Dawning my armor and checking its fit <br />You are never safe if you should take a hit <br /> <br />As my second makes ready my horse for the battle <br />The towns people start to gather like great herds of cattle <br />They impatiently wait for the moment we clash <br />The joust takes but a mere second its over in a flash <br /> <br />When in the arena we all gather round <br />Riding up before the king and everyone in town <br />The crest are arranged as to who will face whom <br />For some knights this day will end in doom <br /> <br />Three passes you’ll make to prove your loyalty <br />Most knights here are born of royalty <br />You prepare yourself and take up your lance <br />Your horse gets nervous and begins to prance <br /> <br />He rears and bolts down along the course <br />Shinning in the sunlight a knight and his horse <br />Swift as lighting and fast on his feet <br />For it is the other knight you wish to unseat <br /> <br />Charging at speed lance lowered you take aim <br />For a knight the joust is the deadliest of games <br />In one brief moment your lance explodes <br />As you look to the other end seeing only the horse that he rode <br /> <br />A brief encounter a battle none the least <br />A knight in armor and a iron clad beast <br />You return to you post heart pounding like thunder <br />Waiting for the next encounter you can only wonder<br /><br />Poison 9901<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/a-knights-joust/
