I’m just a lonely candle <br />that lights this empty place <br />my flame keeps falling faster <br />and my wax just drips away <br /> <br />The smoke just keeps on rising <br />from the ever shrinking wick <br />that escapes into the air <br />leaving oh so quick <br /> <br />The wind blows suddenly <br />through a cracked window <br />and my flame flickers <br />and then there’s no glow <br /> <br />All is dark now <br />no warmth from above <br />and the smoke is not rising <br />I feel so unloved <br /> <br />But wait, <br /> <br />Out in the distance <br />a huge flame I do see <br />bright yellow orange <br />and it’s coming towards me <br /> <br />Closer it comes <br />right above me <br />and it lights me back up <br />and now I can see <br /> <br />It was just a torch <br />just sharing its flame <br />helping out others <br />who fell just the same <br /> <br />And now once again <br />my flame lights the room <br />and my smoke keeps on rising <br />out of this tomb <br /> <br />My flame keeps getting dimmer <br />there’s not much more to say <br />for I am just a lonely candle <br />who is melting all away.<br /><br />michael douglas hamby<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/lonely-candle/
