On rock like stone midst purling rill
The joyful dipper chirp and trill
With snow white breast and feathers black
On head and undersides and back.

A bird in behaviour akin
To brown and tiny songbird wren
He bob and dip in wren like way
And sing his merry dipper lay.

Here in green vale where peace reign rife
In free flowing rill he live his life
He feed and preen and dive and swim
And lead the life God meant for him..

He sports, make love and live carefree
And sleep on branch of rill side tree
The dipper bird of ousel race
Whose voice make glad this lonely place.

Francis Duggan

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-dipper/
