It hurt back in grade school,
When I was singled out
And when no one wanted to speak to me.
That's what I started to doubt.

I forgot about it for a while.
Caught up in our moments and us.
I was happy, or so I thought.
Until time once again progressed...

Eventually, you hurt me
And I said we were done.
I should have known you'd do it,
So I gave away what I'd won.

But then you came to me today
And you pushed my friendship away.

Now I remember
All of those times
Out on the playground
On the street
When I was young
Just being abused
Because I was different

Now, my body and mind are confused
I see now that I was only being used

All those great times we had
Were really just what you used as a pad

To keep me from pushing away
To try to force me to stay.

But I won't have it
Any longer.
I'll prove it to you...
I'm stronger.

Jacob Schnieders

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/memories-of-a-past-and-present/
