If we respect ourselves to others respect we will pay <br />And enough of self love it can take us some of the way <br />To understanding and loving others and harder we may try <br />Of even trying to get on with those with whom we don't see eye to eye <br />Yet of our own praises too much we can sing <br />And too much self love can be a dangerous thing <br />It can make us egostistical and narcissistic and to self only relate <br />And problems in our dealings with others for us can create <br />But this only happens when love for self love of others exclude <br />A trait that is common in those who are rude <br />Too much love of self not a trait of the wise <br />And an inflated ego to self conceit gives rise <br />But there are lessons in life and we learn as we live <br />And if you cannot love self then love you canot give.<br /><br />Francis Duggan<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/too-much-self-love/
