Men contemplate infinity. <br />Which should inspire humility <br />in arrogant humanity. <br /> <br />Though it does not, or so it seems <br />but serves to inspire madcap schemes <br /> Which might fulfil men’s wilder dreams. <br /> <br />We have the capability <br />to reach beyond ability. <br />A mild form of insanity? <br /> <br />It may seem so but it is not <br />We’re not content with what we’ve got. <br />We’re striving to improve our lot <br /> <br />For dreams precede reality. <br />We search the realms of fantasy <br /> for how we think life ought to be. <br /> <br />We do as we were programmed to, <br />we have no choice we have to do <br /> and some of us though very few. <br /> <br />Will realise the universe <br />will one day go into reverse.. <br />Although it seems to us perverse. <br /> <br />All things that start must also end. <br />There is no way we can pretend <br />it is not so nor yet defend. <br /> <br />Our claim we have the right to be. <br />We contemplate infinity <br />But most are blind and cannot see. <br /> <br />I think perhaps it’s just as well <br />we don’t believe the stars foretell <br />The tolling of the final bell. <br /> <br />Which has to come eventually <br />for nothing lasts eternally. <br />That is the only certainty. <br /> <br />When this game ends another starts <br />The curtain falls the cast departs <br /> to be recast for other parts. <br /> <br />Into a singularity <br />containing all that is to be. <br />Until the big bang sets it free. <br /> <br />20-Jul-08 <br /> <br />http: // blog.myspace.com/poetic piers<br /><br />ivor or ivor.e hogg<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/it-is-written/
