I took a ride just the other day <br />Out in the country past fields of hay <br />Old farm houses in a rickety state <br />I knew destruction was their fate <br /> <br />Back then they made brave choices <br />You could almost hear their voices <br />Our forefathers worked the land <br />Strong values on which they’d stand <br /> <br />Wanting a fresh new start they chose <br />A rugged way of life so there rose <br />A homestead to raise their children <br />Women worked ‘long side their men <br /> <br />And then as I left the countryside <br />To the city where I now reside <br />Realizing nothing forever lasts <br />Remembering those folks from the past!<br /><br />Marilyn Lott<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/folks-from-the-past/
