Old Rupert the border collie his muzzle is gray <br />And clearly he has known a far better day <br />His kind master Gen of him does take good care <br />As she says the Rupert Dogs of this World are rare <br />A gentle dog not the type to snarl or bite <br />Rupert the beautiful old black and white <br />Good dogs like good people are destined to grow old <br />Though in book form Rupert's life story may never be told <br />He was in his prime going back ten years ago <br />And his fastest pace now is to say the least slow <br />The praises of Rupert his master does sing <br />But for dogs as for people there is no second life's Spring <br />The Seasons on Rupert beginning to show <br />He was in his life's prime a decade ago.<br /><br />Francis Duggan<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/old-rupert-the-border-collie/
