I lay on the forest floor <br />Looking up <br />Mosaic of pine needles and sky <br />Splashes of clouds <br />And drips of sunlight <br />Puzzle-like bark of ponderosas <br />Climbing up the sides of the painting <br />Glowing trees rustling their <br />Needles in the whispering wind <br />The distant sound of a wet river flowing <br />A bird calls <br />A frog croaks <br />A squirrel pecks <br />The wildflowers sing <br />And the trees dance <br />The earthy smell of the forest's rich dirt <br />The lively smell of growth <br />The sad but necessary smell of death <br />The sweet vanilla-honey smell of tree sap <br />The musky sent of animals unseen <br />Fill my nose in the unique eternal sent of <br />The forest <br />I want this <br />Not the disgusting city <br />With its disgusting sights <br />Sounds <br />And smells <br />I am the forest <br />I will stay in the forest<br /><br />Shannon Hughes<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/i-lay-on-the-forest-floor/
