My mother-in-law, Irene by name <br />Is the leader of her clan. <br />At ninety-three, you surely see <br />Why I became her fan. <br /> <br />Though struck with polio at two, <br />That didn't dim her fire; <br />To work and strive and keep her drive, <br />Remained her big desire. <br /> <br />She wedded, birthed and schooled her kids, <br />That alone should merit fame. <br />Seven lively daughters she brought forth <br />And one of them I claim. <br /> <br />It seems a shame, some garner fame, <br />While others stay unknown; <br />But few amidst life's mingling crowds, <br />Know courage, like she's shown. <br /> <br />It's getting late, so now I go <br />To think on other themes; <br />To quote I'll say ''Goodnight Irene', <br />I'll see you in my dreams.-1998 <br /> <br />This grand old lady passed on in 2005- <br />at 100 years of age-a truly remarkable <br />person.<br /><br />Joseph Anderson<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/goodnight-irene-2/
