Some things are kept forever <br />cherished and tucked away in the attic of memory <br />protected as dearest heirlooms from spoilage of time. <br />Fireflies on a hot summer's eve <br />Autumn and the smell of burning leaves; <br />hot fudge sundaes and homemade pies <br />cherry cokes and burgers and fries. <br />Proms and dresses and vinyl rock n' roll <br />tons of homework, thank god for study hall, <br />the rescue of a pet in the middle of a storm <br />stood up to a bully so a sibling wasn't harmed; <br />grew to a woman who still doesn't fuss, and married <br />that cute boy always saved me a seat on the bus. <br />These moments stoke embers and light a fire <br />as they play out from yesterday's stage; <br />become the warm blankets <br />I wrap around me in the chill of my old age.<br /><br />Carolyn Brunelle<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/warm-blankets/
