I walked beside the stoney lee <br />Alongst the banks of the shore <br />Sheltering from the chilling breeze <br />As I had done so many times before <br /> <br />The sunlight danced upon the waves <br />As I edged the shallows where <br />The waters met the mammoth caves <br />That lined the seashore there <br /> <br />Gazing across the waters deep <br />No sound I heard as you drew near <br />But to the sky my heart did leap <br />As you so softly whispered in my ear <br /> <br />'Oh, what a great beauty, the sea' <br />Were the words you so softly said <br />Then you offered your hand to me <br />And I smiled and nodded my head <br /> <br />How your shining eyes held the sun <br />When the wind touched your hair <br />'Twas my very heart you had won <br />with those beguiling eyes so fair <br /> <br />You led me alongst the rocky trace <br />Keeping me ever so close to your side <br />'Twas there that our love first embraced <br />Surging as didst the incoming tide <br /> <br />And now swiftly the years have flown <br />Since that fated day by the sea <br />How deep my unbridled love has grown <br />For the man that now stands before me <br /> <br />And if fate in its fickle way <br />Gave me the time to begin again <br />I would vehemently cry out nay <br />Lest I forget that which is kenned <br /> <br />When Heaven releases me of earthly demands <br />With a most contented sigh I shall die <br />For tis always in your loving hands <br />My tempered heart shall forever lie<br /><br />Sheri Walters<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/to-my-loving-husband-2/
