I saw the outline of your face, <br />A white blur, midst the <br /> slanting shades, <br />of twilight flitting into the night, <br />So lonesome, dark & still..... <br /> <br />Was it a stifled sigh, I heard? <br />An echo of the emptiness, <br />Reflected in the far-flung look <br />Of eyes, now wet with painful <br /> tears, <br />That cruel grief will not let fall. <br /> <br />I wish I could retrace the light <br />On your dear face, now grim <br /> with loss, <br />And coax your drooping lips <br /> to smile <br />At warm and loving memories <br />That once were part of you. <br /> <br />For really grief is sacrilege - <br />How can you mourn the loss <br /> of love? <br />They say that love, so easily <br />Transcends all space and time <br />And distance.
