As I watch with tear-filled eyes
Summer’s last rose fades away
Sometimes I try to fantasize
That summer’s rose will stay

But like all things that must die
The rose must also decay
When I see it wilt I cry
For the rose that died on summers last day

I try to cope with the pain
Of losing the beauty of life
But I know in winter’s rain
That nothing lasts till the end of time

Innocence torn from me
When I finally learn to understand
Even the blind can see
We’re not living in a fantasy land

I watch the rose bloom and fall
To the ground where it lays
Waiting for winter’s call
The last rose of summer died today

It waits for winter’s end
For spring to call its name
It will be this way forever
So when you lose a love
And your heart is filled with pain
Look for the last rose of summer
And hear it call your name

Haley Revell

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-last-rose-of-summer-5/
