Where have all the poets gone, <br />Not even shades remain. <br />The new age has just picked their bones, <br />Free verse comes down, like acid rain. <br /> <br />Eugene Field, De La Mare, and Poe, <br />Emily, Edna, Browning and, Yeats. <br />Wizards with words I came to know, <br />These were truly poetry's greats. <br /> <br />Poetry used to mean fine art, <br />And poets took pride in their lines. <br />But free verse made poetry depart, <br />Free verse has clouded many minds. <br /> <br />Gone are the days when you could recite, <br />Eldorado to a cheering crowd. <br />Now poets are angry, spoiling for a fight, <br />Screaming their free verse, oh so loud. <br /> <br />They say all good things come back around, <br />I hope so for my sake. <br />Cause in free verse I'm about to drown, <br />In a giant free verse lake. <br /> <br />1/24/11 Alton Texas<br /><br />Juan Olivarez<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/where-have-all-the-poets-gone-3/
