Her eyes sparkle as she remembers a lost love.
She can't help but wonder 'What if'.
What if she had chosen differently?
What if she had been able to stay with him?
What if there had been a way?
What if.....

A small smile appears as a memory surfaces;
a memory both sweet and bitter.
She can't help but hit replay in her mind.
It's as clear as if it just happened yesterday.
The first time they met, what they said, how she felt;
it all comes flooding back to her.

She closes her eyes and dreams of being with him again.
In her dreams tho everything is perfect.
She will never have to leave him or be hurt again.
They are looking out across the ocean at the sunset.
Oh so many times she has had this dream since that day.
The day her world got divided and left her so confused.

Maybe, just maybe, for now she can be content with her life.
She will always wonder 'What if' and dream, can't be helped.
But maybe, just maybe, it will actually happen one day.
In the back of her mind she knows it probably never will.
She just can't stop hoping that it will tho.
She smiles and closes her eyes again.....maybe, just maybe.

Connie Leigh Lindsay

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/maybe-just-maybe-11/
