Into this world, she arrived <br />Held in her strong comforting hand <br />With a smile on her face <br />She bestowed on her <br />Happy she has arrived safely <br />Oh what a new day! <br /> <br />The infant cried... <br />Not knowing what it meant <br />Whit those comforting and inviting faces around her <br />Still she cried <br />Unsure what is going on around her <br />Though not meant to comprehend. <br /> <br />Born and bred in the street <br />Set out in search for a better days <br />Determine to get to the top <br />For her siblings, she will <br />Not knowing what she would find <br />She pushed ahead <br />Like a train, she move... <br />Though not a journey for one soul <br />Stronger she grew each day that passes. <br /> <br />She may have been twenty two or twenty three <br />Raging war with hunger and want <br />Blackened by the burning sun of the day <br />Tied she was from darting and searching <br />To halt means failure <br />To fail, she will not. <br /> <br />Friends or surroundings all menacing <br />Unsure which side the danger might come from <br />A destination was made <br />Then comes the troubles of life charging <br />Like a candle in the middle of the night <br />She fades <br />Like a fool standing on a soft earth <br />She sunk <br />Like the moon after giving light to the night <br />She disappeared into the dark cloud. <br /> <br />The end has made its destination <br />A lifeless heap she lay on her sick bed <br />Not a hiss escaped to tell the tale <br />And she slept unsung. <br /> <br />To The Memory Of My Late Sister.<br /><br />Chuks Kevin Nwaokolo<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/dying-to-survive/
