She stands tall among the company of nations <br />Her name is heralded by all both weak and strong <br />The waves of her influence spreads to distant shores <br />Cutting across all nations both rich and poor <br /> <br />The giant of Africa as she is known by the rest of the world <br />A friend to America, Europe and all continents great and small <br />She swings open her door and is acclaimed for her high diplomacy <br />And her hands are always extended to all for bilateral intimacy <br /> <br />Her rich cultural heritage is something never to be neglected <br />Her unity in diversity is and will always be applauded <br />Her invaluable natural resources would remain a thing to be envied by some <br />And her sons and daughters; upholders of her glory are ever industrious <br /> <br />In her arable northern land dwell the indomitable Hausas <br />And in her west thrives the ever intelligent Yoruba scholars <br />Her east bubbles with activities from the business-minded Ibos <br />And her south is for the oil-rich Niger-Deltans a perfect abode <br /> <br />As she celebrates her independence anniversary today <br />Shouts are out as all unto this great nation do hail <br />Wave her flags high for today she is fifty-one <br />Don’t criticize because of all her destroyers you are one <br /> <br />To the rest of the world she is the giant of Africa <br />To Africans she is the mother and pride of the black <br />To you she may be a miserable or a glorious motherland <br />But to me she is Nigeria, my Nigeria <br /> <br />So join me and celebrate this nation blessed by God <br />She’s got no hurricanes, earthquakes or tsunamis to flee for <br />Celebrate her and help bring her to the frontier <br />Let’s celebrate Nigeria, my Nigeria<br /><br />Stewart Gideon<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/nigeria-my-nigeria/
