The drunken tenants <br />had cornered me <br />Set up shop outside shop <br />outside doorway <br />to my apartment. <br /> <br />When asked why I never <br />stopped by, I told them <br />I was not a big fan of BBQ <br />goat hooves and <br />foreign tongue <br />conversation <br />but still sat down <br />for a Tiger <br />Horse and Elephant <br />beer while trying to find <br />an excuse to leave <br /> <br />They soon returned <br />to talking <br />amongst themselves <br />Loud voices and laughter <br />reverberating <br />amplifying <br />as it was thrown against <br />the tall building walls <br /> <br />In the middle of a <br />specially heated <br />argument we <br />heard the sound of metal <br />hitting the pavement. <br />First one, then more <br />Like Pennies from Heaven <br /> <br />One of them got up <br />and retrieved one <br />of the fallen objects <br />A bullet. <br />After a little <br />searching, one for each <br />member at the table. <br /> <br />We looked up, seeing nothing <br />but dark balcony windows <br />and the vast night sky <br />but understanding that, somewhere <br />up there, someone <br />was watching <br /> <br />The party died <br />after that and I got <br />to go home <br /> <br />Apparently God IS <br />listening or maybe <br />He just wants <br />his quiet too<br /><br />Carsten Thomsen<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/pennies-from-heaven/
