Holly Jamestone - Banana Bread

2014-10-29 14 Dailymotion

She was lifeless in her satin crate that final day
Looking beautiful considering the circumstances
Always one to help lessen the blow
Gram's mission in life was to comfort or amuse us

Pastel roses surrounded her head as she peacefully rested
Their fragrance and the gently blowing curtains becoming one
While the mourners tiptoed in and out of the room
As though they thought they might awaken her

Many had tightly pursed lips as they turned to walk away
Some even appeared to be stifling a laugh
While others had a hand over their lips or were wide-eyed
As they picked up the pen and then fumbled to put it back down

A tall mahogany table sat next to her casket on that day
And instead of a guestbook was a handwritten message to us
Where with surely a twinkle in her eye Our Beloved
Helpfully left us these parting words:

“Don’t forget to reheat the day-old banana bread before serving it.
It’s much fresher that way. See you in Heaven. Gram.”

(8-4-2013)
©2013 All Rights Reserved

Holly Jamestone

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/banana-bread/
