High upon a rock <br />I sit and look out over the sea <br />while the sun colours the horizon <br />and the sea wind brings back <br />the longing of being a child <br /> <br />and it’s difficult <br />to hold the dress around my knees <br />and the wind blows my hat <br />away to the rocky pools <br /> <br />and I think back to my childhood <br />and a life of being free <br />without emotions had been rubbed raw <br />like the seashells on the rocks <br /> <br />and in my thoughts I see myself again <br />as a innocent child <br />playing in the rocky pools <br />and looking at the world with big eyes <br /> <br />while catching some starfish <br />and holding them in my hand, <br />scooping up small fish with the net <br />to put them back again <br />as I was afraid <br />that I could hurt them. <br /> <br />I notice a small girl <br />standing at a rocky pond <br />when I climb down to fetch my hat <br />and I bend down <br />to pick up a starfish <br />that I put in her hand <br /> <br />and I realize <br />that her world lies open <br />and I hope that her emotions <br />will be saved from times of hurt <br /> <br />as being alone is difficult <br />even though the world around you is beautiful.<br /><br />Daleen Enslinstrydom<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-sea-wind-2/
