Builders of hope can’t you see
That it’s too far in the distance
For it to be
Meaningful, fulfilled
Or trustworthy?
So many hopes go up in smoke
And so we hope some more.
We think by hoping all will be fine
And so we keep hoping for
A Savior to come
And soothe our souls,
A leader to surface
Who’ll protect our goals,
A truthsayer to speak
An undo the lies,
An intelligent master
To quell the unwise.

We hope. We hope in a
Monotonous hypnosis
And instead what we have
Is called hope-nosis.
Hypnotically hoping every day,
Tranquilized hoping which gets in the way.
It gives us a false sense
That all will be well
While everything’s crumbling
And going to hell.

Just give the masses something to hope for
And that will quiet them down.
It’s the oldest trick in the books you know?
The oldest one in town.

Edwina Reizer

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/hope-nosis/
