Snow
gracefully falls down
like fluffy
marshmellow clouds
laying a pure white blanket
across the frozen earth

the bitter winter air
angrily kisses
my flushed red cheeks
and nips at
my slight; y forstbitten
and numb toes

My toasty fingers
are snuggled warmly
in vibrant orange gloves
they begin to roll
miniature balls of snow
in preperation for a frostry winter fight

A stream of unwanted air
flies past my ears
the forst one is a slight miss
but the second frozen ball
hits its target
chilling my frosted face

Laughter and joyful giggles
echo in the chilly air
flying back and forth
almost as frequently as
the icy and cold
snow balls

Our winter war is over
we have called a truce
and ended our friendly friend
we have had our fun
slipping away from reality
and into the innocence of childhood for a brief moment

Hand in hand
we slowly walk back across
the blanket of white
and take a moment
to watch as flakes eloquently
dance around us

We told each other tight
and warm our frozen bodies
beside a toasty fire
while we reminisce and laugh
about today's events
the friendly winter war and the memories made

Nicole GravellPellerino

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/a-friendly-winter-war/
