Tiny little soldiers pose far as a sea
Bright green they all are waiting for me
Week after week they keep on growing
Leaning this way and that as wind is blowing

They never stop growing, they don't know how
But given a chance they can feed a cow
They seem to never be slowing
So week after week I keep mowing

Pushing first one way then turning around
The engine relentless in it's rumbling sound
But it must get done so I best keep going
It must all be done so there is no slowing

Sun beating down and I commence to frown
In my own sweat I'm sure I will drown
From the tree overhead birds are crowing
Then I think back to when it was snowing

Winter was cold, long and hard
Snow as high as my eyes filled the yard
So to the grass I say keep on growing
Better then buried in snow I'm certainly knowing

Darlene Walsh

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/little-green-soldiers/
