The faithful horse neighs, in pain and silence
It licks wounds gifted by the inhuman master
But it can't express agonies, none knows its language
It works on, dutiful and obedient to master

The faithful horse carries the loads smilingly
As it loves the works as its only religion
Days wear on, it is burdened more and more
The master smiles at the wonderful machine.

The faithful horse gets tired and looks indifferently
It has nothing else to do, it must finish the job as a slave
Gradually the horse feels weak and sick
But it neither gets sympathy nor treatment.

The feeble horse fails to gallop as before
The ride of the whimsical master now halts
And the horse bears more whiplashes
It swallows cruel curses of the heartless master.

The faithful horse's toils are not answered back
Nor is its life-filled dedication and love for the master
It now knows that it is destined only to hard labour
Without any praise or fee it so richly deserves.

The faithful horse curses own fate
As it is powerless to protest, to seek justice
Its life is only for the master, never for itself
It cries silently - when it see light in life?

Bireswar Halder

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-poor-horse/
