When abysmal darkness reigns; <br />And ghastly silence draws near; <br />I am on the precipice <br />Of a terrible belly- melting fear. <br />Running, beyond strength <br />Beyond belief, beyond thought; <br />Battling in vain to shrug off <br />A lifetime of a melancholy I've got. <br />Circling the mind into repetitive patterns <br />Of yesterday, today and tomorrow; <br />Hoping the next day will rise without it <br />Any more sorrow. <br />But, I have had this nagging emptiness <br />For most of my adult life; <br />Space that drives me <br />Towards the edge every night. <br /> <br />First felt this hole in my soul, <br />Many and many a year ago; <br />Emptiness that drove me <br />From the motherly earth, AWOL! <br />Tried to fill the void with tomes. <br />But this space wasn't docile; <br />Yet steadying my thoughts into other things <br />Also proved futile. <br />I never felt alone, for within me, <br />Was a space ever present; <br />A place there is I would unknowingly, frequent. <br />Nagging emptiness haunting me <br />For most of my adult life;<br /><br />Kuda Bondamakara<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/solitude-238/
