A cold wind blew this hispanic man to me
A New York warrior fighting to be free
Why would anyone drift to my headspace
For advice for comfort for perhaps a trace
Of some kinda understanding I suppose
God almighty what could I propose
To mend this wretch on the edge
Of insanity, manic emptiness, a violent ledge
My wife has gone my children too
As of right now there is only you
Me? I can't do a bloody thing
Other than make even more of a ring
In your ears tormented every day
By a ringing thats grinding your brain away
Down from ground zero by the water we stood
Perhaps a fertile place to set the mood
Hey man no answer have I got for you
I am lost on this one, just a listening fool
When we suffer we suffer alone
Like you with your buzz, your terrible drone
Costing you all and everything near
I bet you wish God never gave you an ear
He held my hand and stood near me still
I stood with this stranger ever so, till
Thank you for your time, he quietly said
I will remember this day till after Im dead
And I walked away up a New York Ave
With the wind on my back and a stormy view
Turned a corner that said that my way was ahead
And the only thing for company was the ring in my head.

Geoffrey Fafard

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/tinnitus-new-york-style/
