Hakon Evjemo - Ethics Took My Big Toe

2014-10-29 2 Dailymotion

O hark, what is that fearsome sound
That wakes me in the night?
O hark, what is that awful pain
That nibbles out of sight?

A Badger, Badger, black and white
Where have you scurried from?
So bold to enter in my tent
And take what not belongs.

Prepare your face, for I will kick
Some sense into it too.
How dare you try to take my toe
This night you'll surely rue.

But just as I did lunge my foot
My reason cleared its throat
And threw me back into my past
With argument to quote:

'See here, you're wrong, in every way
Our conduct ought to be
That any action plucked from time
Can work universally.'

And then I thought of my dear toe
Vs. kicking in the face
And wondered if the food for one
Exceeds my toe-shaped space.

But the time it took for me to think
And choose which way to go
The Badger bold, with fervid teeth,
Ran off with my big toe.

Hakon Evjemo

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/ethics-took-my-big-toe/
