This day the dog <br />Had its tail between <br />Its hinds limbs. <br />Frightened cold <br />Gold meant nothing to nobody <br /> <br />This day the terrorists visited <br />Two tower blocks tumbled down <br />And a strike on pentagon averted <br />The terrorists on the prowl <br />And the world conquered? <br />It was smoke, death and grief <br />Like there was never <br />Going to be the next day. <br /> <br />Fire fighters, police and volunteers <br />Rose to national calamity <br />The policeman of the world <br />Has been hit and world peace <br />Dangerously placed <br />On the edge of a canyon. <br /> <br />That morning, mourning was much <br />Fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters <br />Had melancholy in their hearts <br />Oceans, only oceans compared <br />With the tears of the world <br /> <br />Still the terrorists seem to be <br />Telling the world, 'you ain't seen nothing'! <br />They have a field day always <br />For their barbecue in Nigeria, syria, iraq, lebanon <br />The world blares its trumpet of peace <br />But precariously sitting <br />On a keg of gunpowder. <br /> <br />September eleven, grief symbol <br />The world will always remember <br />And see you as it sees Emma Lazarus' <br />Colossus at Ellis island <br />For those who gave their lives <br />That the terrorist won an ephemeral war <br />You remain in our marrow <br />And for the terrorist like my mother said <br />'Every day for the owner <br />But one day for the thief'!<br /><br />Tony Adah<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/nine-eleven-two-thousand-and-one/
