I'm 35 today - half-way through - <br />My three score years and ten. <br />Time to sit back - <br />To look back - to take stock, <br />Wonder where all the years have gone. <br />What have I achieved - what have I learned? <br />I should have reached maturity - <br />Or so society tells me, <br />Middle-aged respectability - <br />A secure job - married with 2.4 children <br />Semi-detached house - Mondeo estate in the drive. <br /> <br />Yet here I am - still single <br />Not much money in the bank. <br />Marriage and children - <br />Only a remote possibility- yet I am free <br />To lead my life - as I please - <br />Not as others think I should. <br />I still have my problems - don't we all? <br />But I have what matters - <br />Peace of mind and an open mind - <br />Freedom to overcome past hurts. <br />Vision to shape the future - <br />Power to forget the past. <br />The first 35 years were just practice - <br />A learning curve - to make the future - <br />Fucking awesome.<br /><br />bryan wallace<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/birthday-72/
