Passing time on a hot Texas day <br />with a little added imagination; <br />kids catchin' grasshoppers <br />with some innocent competition. <br />The challenge: how many to a jar. <br /> <br />First the afternoon to hunt, <br />then the count; <br />by nightfall the release, so that all <br />could hop back into tall grasses again. <br />A children's game of no harm, no foul. <br /> <br />Less experienced, anxious, he clumsily <br />snagged the largest of the long legged giants, <br />couldn't fit much more than two or three; <br />she, with patience and delicacy, loaded <br />her jar with the tiniest of the green beauties. <br /> <br />But the day's triumph faded quickly <br />into a moment not meant to be; <br />made to sacrifice her victory <br />to the envy and tears of another <br />'after all he's your little brother.'<br /><br />Carolyn Brunelle<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/passing-moment/
