I bled my venomous blood, <br />and saw a desert stretch out before me, <br />far and wide. <br />I chose to walk, <br />and God help me, <br />I walked until all the sand had left the earth, <br />and every grain had returned to the ocean. <br /> <br />Knowledge is found, <br />wisdom is earned. <br />And for every mile I walked, <br />I witnessed an equally distant mile behind me <br />whenever I turned to feel the cutting winds <br />upon my cheek. <br /> <br />Scorpions, cacti, salt. <br />I carry every note of the desert on my sleeve. <br />It is as much a part of me as I am of it.<br /><br />Matthew Thomas Donovan<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/desert-music/
