Clean-up is underway in Burkina Faso's capital Ougadougu...<br/> <br />Following two days of protests that led to the resignation of President Blaise Compaore.<br/> <br />On Saturday, the military backed Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Zida as head of state -- overruling the chief of staff who had also claimed to be in charge.<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE) (French) LIEUTENANT COLONEL, ISAAC ZIDA, SAYING:<br/> <br />"Starting from today, I will assume all responsibilities during this transitional phase and take over as head of state to ensure the continuity of governance."<br/> <br />Protests were sparked after Compaore attempted to change the constitution to extend his 27-year rule.<br/> <br />At least three people were killed after protesters stormed the parliament building and set it on fire.<br/> <br />The unfolding crisis is being closely watched by the U.S. and France --<br/> <br />Both were close military allies of Compaore in the fight against al Qaeda-linked groups in West Africa.
