It was hot today like any October tropic day <br />And my dear old girl looked sad <br />No wagging tail, <br /> No tooth and pink tongue smile <br />Well we better fix this hey mate? <br />Lets head north up the coast <br />Where the sea is blue, the breeze cool <br />And a thousand beaches wait for only us <br />Out of the truck and out of this time zone <br />Our noses point into the wind <br />Hers so much sharper than mine <br />Ears fly caught in the song of that wind <br />A tongue comes out and a smile is born <br />Off she goes to show me the way <br />The transition to happiness in a dog <br />Is such a simple beautiful thing. <br />- - - - - - <br />The deserted beach opens its heart <br />To the both of us in full flow <br />The ghost crabs she chases <br />The old and stranded shells I gather <br />The silence of our voices <br />Whilst we listen to the sea <br />The gulls overhead, the wind in the she oaks <br />All have more important stuff to say <br />And she runs in pure joy just because she is here <br />And we don't need to talk <br /> So we walk and play lost in it all <br />I thank this beach for my companion <br />This old beautiful girl who now drags a foot <br />And walks at my side and protects me <br />From myself <br />- - - - - - - - - <br />I throw a stick into the sea, she plunges in <br />I wish we could walk for eternity <br />She carries the stick head up high <br />I bend and pick up a shell <br />And the wind in it sings a song to us <br />That I have long waited for. <br /> <br />Geoffrey and Savannah.<br /><br />Geoffrey Fafard<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/flotsam-and-jetsam-2/
