A woman with terminal brain cancer who championed the right to assisted suicide has ended her life.<br /><br />American Brittany Maynard had previously said she had chosen November 1 as the day she would die.<br /><br />The 29-year-old was diagnosed with a brain tumor in January and said she planned to take the lethal dose when her pain became unbearable.<br /><br />She had moved from California to Oregon to take advantage of the state’s Death With Dignity act which allows doctor-assisted suicide.<br /><br />Maynard posted videos about her condition and choices on YouTube which went viral – one was watched nine million times.<br /><br />A statement on Facebook said she passed away “peacefully in her bed surrounded by close family and loved ones.”
