On a highway past the east side of Reno <br />Bout passed out with a sign on his chest <br />Dad hollered 'man that's somebody I know ' <br />Pulled over at nobody's behest <br />In daddy's arms he drank one last swallow <br />Said 'Bye friend', drew his last breath. <br />I saw a teardrop fall on a dead hobo <br />I heard dad say… staring out west. <br /> <br />He ain't dead… he's only sleeping <br />He's done with the push and the shove <br />Every promise left in his keeping <br />Like his word was as pure as a dove. <br />The seeds that he sowed someone's reaping <br />In crops that helps them rise above <br />The trouble that this world keeps heaping <br />On the ones who keep living to love. <br /> <br />The home of the brave they took for free <br />In God's name they do all their wrong <br />The Black man sees way past eternity <br />White man's hate will then be long gone. <br />Children's fate now killing their destiny <br />If they ain't murdered before being born <br />And evil grows in the powers that can be <br />It's left to us to keep singing this song…<br /><br />Little Eagle McGowan<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/on-a-highway-past-the-east-side-of-reno/
