Little Eagle McGowan - O The Wind and The Waves That Bore You

2014-11-03 11 Dailymotion

O the wind and the waves that bore you
'Twas the spirit of the great sea.
Magnificent skies as big as were true
As far as your foreign eyes could see
Grand land of a million and one hues
With men and beast living free
And the soul, at last, for once knew
All that a free human could be.

So they came with their ships and scholars
Their armies, guns and long knives
Their flags and edicts, and orders
Religion, intrigue, greed and lies
Reckless, rabid, ruthless… marauders.
The shadows of death in their eyes.
With paradise at their feet, and no further
Yet everywhere...a hell of a trail behind.

What they didn't destroy they poisoned
Seeds of evil they sowed far and wide.
If their deeds were seen on the horizon.
Darkness would persist on every side.
To the hard of heart, life's a prison
Where hope comes, to wither and die.
So far from the pleas of earth's children…
Only God hears the sound of their cries.

So in this prison's dungeons they hide…
The spoils of their victory and power
The prisoners have no guilt or no crime
Save but being 'the people' they are.
So hear now... the words of our wise…
Listen you mighty men of the hour…
Until the last of us, wild and free rides
There can be no such thing as… an America.

Little Eagle McGowan

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/o-the-wind-and-the-waves-that-bore-you/
