how many things are <br />are still left? <br />felt but never said <br />said but never felt <br />how many springs are <br />are still left like ore? <br />smelt iron streams <br />burning but never fed <br />spelled out somewhere <br />but just maybe never read <br /> <br />oh but to have been <br />a poet <br />in times when poets <br />were only a few <br />those who felt <br />and made others <br />feel and know it <br />before those <br />surely like me <br />and surely like you <br /> <br />before we became <br />fools in a game <br />when to be or not <br />like we <br />was so exciting and so new <br />and the Beatles poets <br />could say make millions <br />with the simple words <br />to simply <br />'Let It Be' <br /> <br />and yet now <br />so much the same <br />fame and fortune <br />for us is all lost <br />and almost certain <br />quite through <br />in the game <br />before our first dice <br />were ere to be tossed <br /> <br />education has made <br />us more equal <br />and the media <br />has made poets all null <br />tv realties <br />seek only a sequel <br />to hope for <br />the mindless to cull <br /> <br />nothing about Love <br />hasn't already been <br />written <br />nothing about death <br />hasn't already been <br />said <br />nothing for which one <br />perchance may be smitten <br />nothing new put into <br />anyone else's head <br /> <br />we poets are <br />nothing but liars <br />who lie to ourselves <br />and to many <br />and more than a few <br />do just what we <br />can do <br />and one more <br />would be <br />two much <br />aplenty <br /> <br />and two more <br />would be <br />too much <br />ado <br />about nothing <br />two no one <br />but you <br />so if it's <br />fortune and fame <br />draws you into the game <br />or just an audience <br />look you won't really <br />find any <br /> <br />not a one really <br />till you die <br />if you are <br />very <br />very <br />lucky <br />the end <br />period <br /> <br />10/31/14 5: 22 E.S.T<br /><br />Stephen Warren Williams<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/how-many-things-are-still-left-the-end-period/
