The chains of life are getting heavy
They wrap around me, far too many
Cutting deep into my purple bleeding skin
Pulling so tight they're growing within

My steps are getting shorter and shorter
Like my breath forced out under water
The air is getting thin all around
I feel like I'm about to drown

Sink or swim, float or fly
Time gets shorter by and by
I wonder where it all will lead
I wonder this and more indeed

I gave up on me, myself and I
One true regret till the day I die
But I will go on and on down the road
Bearing the weight of this heavy load

To the end when land and water meet
And when i feel the sand beneath my feet
I'll walk into the water cold and deep
And then my maker I will hope to seek

As I'm sinking into the dark abyss
I piece together the path to this
So many twists and turns
I missed the one that my heart has yearned

Then I can rest my body and sleep
Forever falling into the slope so steep
Hearing my hearts failing beat
I'll remember then my promises to keep...

DEEP DARK SOUL POET

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/chains-36/
