Lying in the grass, feeling prickly against my back <br />I find myself floating into the twinkling abyss above me. <br />The night air surrounds me, crisp and cool to the touch <br />It rocks me to sleep and sends me soaring into the night. <br />The stars sparkle like diamonds, dwarfed by the moon, with its grace and radiance <br />Its light casts over me with glow so warm and inviting. <br /> <br />I think of those in my life as I lie here, beneath the sky <br />From my closest friends, to the people I loathe more than more than anything. <br />I think of the loves I’ve had, how none have felt the same <br />A tear drops from my eyes, glistened by the moonlight. <br />I think of those dead, now looking down upon me <br />That somewhere up there, they may be smiling, watching me weep. <br /> <br />The night grows older, the wind picks up, and the chill starts to become too much <br />The sky gets darker, signaling a departure from realism and dream. <br />I look up into the night one more time, and from out of the abyss – a shooting star <br />Ah, a dream; I reach down into my heart and pull one out – praying it will come true. <br />But alas, dreams don’t come true for all. <br />I stand and walk into the light, leaving my imprint in the moonlit grass<br /><br />Aaron Peska<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-moonlit-sky-on-a-cloudless-night/
