Uproot the Trees <br /> <br /> <br /> Uproot the trees <br /> whose branches offend <br /> the long, strong dapple-fangled neck of Thisbe, <br /> whose apples tempt the snake-charmed arm of man. <br /> Strip the bark from babbling birch <br /> before the woads of time can synthesize. <br /> And lest the plough shall yield <br /> the tantrums of oblivion. <br /> On distant hills of wisdom's home <br /> Beneath the vagrancy of salt, <br /> Issue mandrills to the pitless dome <br /> where angry stamens stamp their pitch. <br /> The oak, the ash, the lupine larch <br /> In spirit of the bygone straws <br /> may unfold the scrolls <br /> but should the struggle gain? <br /> For even Dvornik <br /> in his double egg-cup days <br /> knew the folly of duplicit gripes - <br /> Twice, though once enticed by kelp. <br /> And see the weeping willow how she pinks <br /> when clustered in the void of prancing irks, <br /> And ask not whom the creeping shadows jolt. <br /> The coconut, twice shy, en masse <br /> will triumph o'er the spiteful morn <br /> and though the roots may wither, <br /> The fruits shall multiply apace. <br /> <br /> Uproot the trees <br /> <br /> But never interject past hindrances.<br /><br />Terry Donovan<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/uproot-the-trees/
