On Monday when I thought of you,
I saw you for a while,
I saw the twinkle in your eyes,
I saw that gentle smile.

On Tuesday when I thought of you,
You had a heavy frown.
There was no twinkle in your eyes,
Your smile was upside down

On Wednesday I thought of you.
It seemed you'd moved away.
Your image was much smaller,
The picture turning grey.

On Thursday when I thought of you,
I had a job to see.
A swirling mist surrounded you,
Hid most of you from me.

On Friday when I saw you,
It was just as I had feared;
I mostly saw the swirling mist.
You'd almost disappeared.

On Saturday I saw you last,
A speck inside a blur.
I wanted so to bring you back
And see you as you were

But Sunday came and you were gone.
Blind was my inner eye,
Though through the space of nothingness
I thought I heard you cry.

Terry Donovan

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/diminuendo/
