He saw the doctor hurrying away
He saw the curtains of her bedroom drawn
He saw a neighbour kneel right down and pray -
All signs the time had come for him to mourn.
All day he'd been excluded from the house,
They thought him far too young to understand.
He'd walked the streets as quiet as a mouse,
The saddest little person in the land.
He knew full well just what was going on,
He knew there was no hope and she would die.
He hated everyone for she'd be gone
Without him being there to say goodbye.
They'd cut him out, they'd made him stay outside.
Sod them! So he sat on the step and cried.

Terry Donovan

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/no-title-3/
