You know how you draw lines – <br />Sometimes with a flourish of the fingertips, <br />Sometimes with a white-knuckled fist <br />With such pressure and power <br />Even soft graphite <br />Tears the paper to bits? <br /> <br />Well, it was kind of like that … <br />And yet not. <br /> <br /> <br />It wasn’t deliberate: <br />I didn’t plan or plot the points, <br />Didn’t take aim, <br />Take care or concentrate. <br />Didn’t bother with a ruler – <br />It wasn’t that kind of straight edge - <br />But it was there all the same: <br />The discontinuity: <br />The line <br />Between you and me.<br /><br />Tony Jolley<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/drawing-lines/
