There's one thing that I have not done, I've <br />never wrote a poem, but it sounds like fun. <br />So I'll get out my paper and my ballpoint pen, <br />then I'll pull up a chair and let the fun begin. <br />Should I write about a ship sailing out to sea, <br />or should I write about a lion roaming wild and free? <br />I could write about a mountain that no one can climb, <br />but how in the world can I make things rhyme? <br />Does leaf sound anything at all like tree? <br />Does coffee sound anything at all like tea? <br />Should I write about a rich man rising to fame, <br />or should I write about a beggar with nothing to claim? <br />I could write about an eagle soaring just beneath a cloud, <br />if I only had a word that would rhyme with proud. <br />Does push sound anything at all like shove? <br />Does puppy sound anything at all like love? <br />I started out thinking there was nothing to this, <br />but now I see I can never do this. <br />So I'll put away my paper and my ballpoint pen, <br />and I will not attempt to write another poem again. <br />I gave it a try, and I took my time, <br />but I just couldn't get the verses to rhyme.<br /><br />Elmer Butts<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/a-failed-attempt/
