A little boy walked up to me, his eyes so big and brown, <br />He held my hand so strong and tight and said, ''Hey, please look down.'' <br />I picked him up; he hugged my neck; he said his name was ''Ray,'' <br />And when he started talking, these are the words he had to say, <br />''Will you be my daddy on Father's Day, as I don't have one of my own, <br />All of the kids in my neighborhood have got a mommy and daddy at home.'' <br />He told me that his daddy left, no reason did he give, <br />And his mommy had to go to work to make enough to live. <br />He said each night at bedtime that he would kneel and pray, <br />And ask the Lord for a daddy, these are the words that he would say, <br />''God, please send me a daddy this Father's Day, you see, I don't have one of my own; <br />All the kids in my neighborhood, have got a mommy and a daddy at home.'' <br />Well, after my tears were all wiped away and I was able to speak, <br />He looked up at me with love in his eyes and wiped a tear from his own little cheek. <br />Well, he took me home to meet his mom and there I decided to stay <br />Though that little boy is now a young man, I just love it when I hear him say, <br />''I'm glad you're my daddy on Father's Day, now I have one of my own, <br />And I'm like all the kids in my neighborhood, I've got a mommy and a daddy at home.''<br /><br />Jeannie West<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/will-you-be-my-daddy-on-father-s-day/
