The old tree stands <br /> So all alone <br /> In the vacant lot <br /> That once was home <br /> Symbolic of the past <br /> A fleeting moment to some <br /> Because what has been <br /> Is a part of us forever <br /> The house is gone <br /> That we once shared <br /> With laughter and tears <br /> That showed we care <br /> We all have gone <br /> Other lines to seek <br /> But the old tree stands <br /> So majestic and neat <br /> It seems to know <br /> That we'll return <br /> To gaze at its branches <br /> Past days to yearn <br /> The river still flows <br /> And the birds sing <br /> But no voices are heard <br /> As the old tree stands<br /><br />Rose E.
