As he thought to himself about it,
He told his heart
Not to believe what was inside,
When he was through
There was no doubt about it,
His heart now believed a lie

He taught the heart
How to not feel the hurt and pain,
And the cruel sure to come, It was a game
He told the heart to believe
And it clung to every word,
That she loved him too, It was not in vain

The heart it believed
And ignored misery,
It gave him strength to carry on,
Although sometimes in fear
It kept hidden a tear,
When sometimes, it thought it was wrong

Now the heart, all scarred,
Tattered, and missing parts
Never faltered, it always held true
But he forgot while teaching the heart
How to ignor,
The loneliness too.

Bill Simmons

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/a-heart-s-lie/
