'The Transcendent'...'The Metaphysical'...'The Higher Truth...' <br />spooky words used by <br />spooky people with <br />spooky minds who belong to <br />spooky organisations for <br />those who've nothing better to do? <br />These days words like this <br />sure look weird in cold print... <br /> <br />OK let's be cool about this <br />it could be worth a chat. <br /> <br />When you rush home from school <br />and at the door <br />the puppy barks at you and skids on the floor <br />cos he's wagging his tail that hard <br />and the cat condescendingly <br />acknowledges your presence and dispenses <br />a saucerful of warmth by rubbing against <br />your ankle or bare leg <br />and Mum groans in a friendly way <br />at all the smears on your clothes <br />you've acquired during the day <br />and Dad asks you what you learned today son (..uh...) <br /> <br />you're in the transcendental world - <br />of things that can't be nailed down or measured; <br />starting with love and happiness and faith and hope and trust <br />and a lot of other words <br />like justice, mercy, compassion, care, courage, selflessness, <br />generosity, humanity, enthusiasm, gratitude, praise... <br />which if we don't use them occasionally as words <br />but just take them for granted <br /> <br />disappear <br /> <br />from human mind. <br /> <br />and so poets being poets may take them down from the shelf <br />or out of the dictionary <br />once in a while, <br />dust them <br />and put them back looking as dusted things do <br />more noticeable and really rather fine.<br /><br />Michael Shepherd<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/0007-the-transcendent/
