Today
the day dragged heavily across the tar lot

A sea of people invaded my space –
my children giggled at the top of their lungs and no one, but me, heard them –

Today
the smells of sugar, cheese, onions and grease slipped thru the air and
asked me to dance –
I gave in to the cotton candy –

I moved from bench to bench seeking the shade –
the sun hurt my skin and the part in my hair –

The day melted me and
I looked like I had spent the day walking under a shower head –

I swear the cheese curds were deep fried in fish oil and
the gyro wasn’t a gyro, but a caesar salad in pocket bread –

After all this, he turns to me –

“Mom, I had a gorgeous day today at the fair.”

G.R.
